They said to Him, John's disciples often fast and pray and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours go on eating and drinking. Jesus answered, Can you make the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, in those days they will fast. He told them this parable: No one tears a patch from a new garment and sews it on an old one. If he does, he will have torn the new garment, and the patch from the new will not match the old. And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will burst the skins, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, new wine MUST be poured into new wineskins so that both may be PRESERVED. And no one after drinking old wine wants the new, for he says, 'The old is better.' Luke5:33-39. The Pharisees asked Jesus why His disciples were not fasting often as they were. Jesus's response is very intresting. First he points out that they are operating on His presence and the anointing that is in Him. And onces He goes away (dies and resurrect from the grave), they will have the anointing in them too. Then they will qualify for fasting. He went on further to point out that taking things from the new dispensation (grace--new garment) and merging them with the old (law--old garment) will not work. His disciple were to put on the new garment but at that time there had to shed the old garment--all of it. Fasting and prayer was a way to put on the new garment. To fast then without removing the old would be to tear the new garment to patch the old. Why? Becouse you can never have the whole new garment without removing the whole of the old first. The disciples had to be renewed in their minds before they can fast and pray. The other problem of fasting without renewal of the mind is that you tear from the new, you dont get all of the new. Little knowledge is dangerous!! You also mix the old with the new. The new will be dominated by the *

The new will be dominated by the old. He went further to say that you cannot pour new wine into old wineskins. New wine is the new move of the Spirit, the new dispensation. In the Old Testament the Spirit of God dwelt in the Holies of Holies in the Temple, but now He dwells in our bodies. He did not move IN THEM like He does IN US. But you know Him, for He lives WITH YOU and will be IN YOU. John14:17. At that time, the disciples were not born again, the Spirit was with them, but after Jesus's resurrection the Spirit entered into them. The wineskin is a renewed mind (individually), a leadership structure that functions according to the revelation of the Spirit (cooperatively). The move of the Spirit [Gods direction and plan for that particular man or woman (individually)] must be entrusted to the man or woman that has a renewed mind. Likewise, the move of the Spirit [Gods direction and plan for that church (cooperatively) must be entrusted to a leadership structure that is functioning according to the revelation of the Spirit. If not, the new wine (Gods direction and plan for that man or woman) will burst the skins. Meaning that the new wine will burst the unrenewed mind and run out and the man or women will be ruined. Likewise, the new wine (Gods direction and plan for the church cooperatively) will burst the leadership structure that is functioning from the flesh and the new wine will run out and the church will be ruined. New wine must be poured into new wineskins so that both the new wine and the new wineskins may be preserved. This is Jesus's answer to the question of fasting. To the one who has parti ted in the old (the man or woman who served God with an unrenewed mind) the new wine (Gods direction and plan for his or her life) is not immedeately desirable. To the church who served God with a leadership structure that functions from the flesh the new wine is not immedeately desirable. For both the individual with an unrenewed mind and the church that *

...and the church that has a leadership structure that functions from the flesh will say the old is better. Now lets see how this parable played itself out in christian history, begining with the Apostles in the book of Acts up until now. The Apostles ran the church up until the days of persecutions and matrydom under the Emperor Nero. Emperor Constantine embraced christianity, but he himself was not born again. It was the devils strategy, becouse he saw that persecuting and killing the christians did not work. So he created counterfeit christianity. As Emperor Constantine embraced it, the first denomination ever--the Roman Catholic Church was established. It was the state and the church as well. Since it was the state, it had powers to enforce its beliefs on the state subjects. The Roman Empire had spread throughout all of Europe and the Middle East and some parts of Africa and Asia, and England. Talk about influence!! The first task it did was to confescate bibles from the people. Any person that deviated from their doctrine and taught other things was tried for heresy, and if found guilty, was excecuted by the state like criminals. This happened until God raised church reformers like John Calvin, Martin Luther, John Wycliff, etc. They were called protestants. This is where Protestant Churches came from. During the reign of the Roman Catholic Church, before the Reformation, history calls that period the Dark Ages. In those Dark Ages, the devil twisted the doctrine of the Apostles and all christian practices (eg, infant baptism, sacriments, emphasis on garments of worship, etc). The devil mixed Old Testament practices and some of the New Testament teachings which he twisted. Christianity as presented by the Roman Catholic Church was what Paul prophesied in 1Timothy4:1-4
doctrines of devils. The Protestant Movement, consisting of the Presbeterians, Methodist, Anglican, lutheran, etc, did remove some of those doctrine of devils but sadly retained some of them (eg *

(eg infant baptism, emphasis on garments of worship, the burning of incense, etc--which differ from denomination to denomination across the Protestant Churches). Some did recieve a new direction from the Holy Spirit about baptism by total immersion to adults not infants. This was widely rejected by most of the Protestant Movement, so those who recieved this revelation started the Baptist Movement. Then after some time some recieved further direction from the Spirit about the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. They were called the Pentecostal Movement. This was widely rejected by the Baptist Movement and labelled it as of the devil. Then some people recieved further direction from the Spirit about the manifestations of the gift of the Spirit. Some Pentecostals rejected this movement which was called the Charismatic Movement becouse of the emphasis on gifts of the Spirit. And now God has taken people out to specialise on certain areas of the Word which have been missing from the church. Some are called to major on faith and some the prophetic ministry, etc. But the biggest revelation is the church, the Body of Christ. The Body of Christ is the only structure that is able to encampass all of these revelations without the wine running out and without the wineskins being ruined. *
